Choosing the Best Box for Your Product

Choosing the right box for your product, both in terms of branding and size, is critical to ensuring the lowest possible cost and the best brand reception.

The cost of shipping your package is largely determined by its length, width, and depth. Accurately measuring the box dimensions allows you to make informed shipping decisions that benefit your bottom line.

Measuring a box is simple, but you must ensure that the box size is optimized for the size of what you're shipping.

In essence, the measurements for a box are length, width, and height (also called depth).

If you already have a box, start by measuring the distance from end to end on the box's longest side. That's how long it is. Then, measure the package's shortest side. That's how wide it is. Finally, measure the height (depth) of the box from the inside to the nearest inch, rounding up. Once you've gathered all of your measurements, you can calculate how much internal packing is required to protect your product.

You must determine the size of your product to the nearest inch when ordering a standard or custom corrugated box. For the sake of simplicity, let's say we're shipping a stack of calendars that are 9 inches long, 9 inches wide, and 5 inches tall.

Once you have that information, you should order a box with the least amount of internal packing while still protecting the product. For the example above, you could order a custom 10x10x6 corrugated box with half an inch of space around the calendars and one inch of space at the top of the package.

Brown & Pratt will walk you through every step of the process and will assist you in selecting the best shipping materials and internal packing for your product. Once we have your product measurements, we will systematically combine that information to determine the most cost-effective size and style of custom corrugated box to meet your needs.
