What exactly are Rigid Boxes and Set-up Boxes?

Rigid boxes are a type of paper-based box that is made of high-thickness (often 2-3mm) chipboard that is wrapped in decorative specialty paper.

They are also known as set-up boxes, gift boxes, and premium packaging.

Rigid boxes are a high-end packaging option that is commonly used for;

  • Board Games
  • Luxury products – eg. Jewelry
  • Gifts

Flexible vs. Rigid Packaging

By their names alone, you can probably guess how flexible and rigid packaging differ.

Rigid packaging is a popular packaging type that consists of thick paperboard and refers to hard, solid packaging as opposed to flexible packaging.

Rigid packaging, as the name implies, will not change shape. It has a more luxurious appearance and feel, as well as a stronger construction and support.

However, it will not be as durable or protective as other types of packaging, such as corrugated, but it will provide your products with sturdy construction.

Flexible packaging, on the other hand, can easily bend to take any shape you require.

Its main distinguishing feature in this context is its adaptability.

Flexible packaging essentially encompasses any type of packaging that is easily bendable, such as a folding carton, and it comes in a variety of sizes.

It is critical to distinguish between rigid packaging and rigid boxes.

To create luxurious packaging solutions, rigid or set up boxes are made from thick and sturdy paperboard.

The rigid packaging industry, on the other hand, encompasses a diverse range of materials, including metals and glass.

Rigid Packaging Varieties

There are two types of rigid boxes: partial finish rigid boxes and full finish rigid boxes.

Partially completed

The partial finish is a type of rigid packaging in which the wrapping and chipboard are only partially finished.

The wrapping is only used to finish the outer surfaces of the box, and the chipboard inside is visible and bare, indicating that it is unfinished.

Full Finish

With a full finish, no chipboard is visible because the rigid box is completely wrapped.

Thicker chipboard, with a thickness of about 2-3 mm, is also used.

The inner chipboard is divided into pieces for each side of the box and can be laminated with a variety of finishing options depending on the requirements.

Packaging in Tubes
Rigid tubes, also known as rolled-edge tube packaging, are a unique and eco-friendly paper packaging option for those who want to stand out and be different.

Rigid tube packaging is a type of rigid box that is cylindrical in shape, has no corners, and is typically designed with a telescopic or shoulder-neck opening.
